Effective October 22, 2026 · Spēk is made by ArtemisWorx LLC, New Hampshire, USA
The short version. Spēk clones your voice only after you agree, uses it only to speak your own translated words, and deletes it when you ask. We do not sell your data, we do not show ads, and your voice is not used to train anyone's models.
You can delete your voice, or your whole account, inside the app at any time.
| What | Why | How long |
|---|---|---|
| Your voice recording and the voice model made from it | So translations are spoken in your own voice. This is biometric data, and we collect it only with your explicit consent on the recording screen. | Until you delete your voice or your account |
| What you say while using the app (audio) | Turned into text and translated. The audio itself is processed and not kept by us. | Not stored |
| The text of what you said and its translation | To deliver the conversation, to let you replay or save a line, and to find and fix problems. | Up to 30 days in our logs. A two-phone conversation stays in its room until 7 days after the room was last used. |
| Photos you take with "Translate a sign or menu" | Read and translated, then discarded. The text that was read is kept like any other translation. | The photo is not stored by us |
| Profile: name, photo, language, city, state, country | So friends can recognise you. If "Discoverable" is on, other Spēk users can find you by these. | Until you change them or delete your account |
| Email address | To sign you back in on a new phone or browser, and to send your confirmation and welcome emails. Product news only if you tick the box. | Until you remove it or delete your account |
| Precise location | Only if you choose "Show my actual location" for your map pin. The pin then moves with you: when you open Spēk at least 25 km from where it sits, it is updated to where you are (using the location permission you already gave, never asking again). Otherwise your pin is placed at the city you typed. | Until you switch it off or delete your account |
| Friends list and friend requests | To connect you with the people you choose. | Until you remove a friend or delete your account |
| Notification token | To tell you when someone is waiting to talk or has sent a message. | Until you turn notifications off or delete your account |
| Usage counts, device type, country, and network address | To run the free daily allowance, prevent abuse, keep the service working, and understand which features are used. | Daily totals (how many turns, how many seconds, what it cost us) are kept for our records. They contain no words and no voice, and after your account is deleted they point to an account that no longer exists. |
| Spēk Romance profile: birth year, how you describe yourself, who you would like to meet, photos and your voice line | Only if you turn on Spēk Romance, so other people in Romance can see your profile and hear your line in their language. Your age is shown as a decade, never your birth year. | Until you leave Romance or delete your account |
| Links from other apps | When you open Spēk from a link in another app or website, the link tells us the two languages and the name of that app. We use the name only to count how much each partner's travelers use Spēk. We receive nothing else from the other app about you. | Kept in our daily totals, like other usage counts |
| Purchases | Spēk Plus is bought in the app through the App Store or Google Play; Apple or Google take the payment and tell us which account has an active subscription. Purchases on our website go through our payment processor, which sends us confirmation and your email. We never see your card number. | As required for tax and accounting records |
We share data only with companies that process it on our behalf, and only what each one needs:
We do not sell personal information, we do not share it for advertising, and Spēk contains no third-party advertising or tracking across other companies' apps and websites.
Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR in Europe, the LGPD in Brazil, or US state privacy laws), you may have additional rights, including to object, to withdraw consent, and to complain to your data protection authority. Withdrawing consent for your voice is the same as deleting it: use "Forget voice" or write to us.
Spēk is operated from the United States and your data is processed there. If you use Spēk from another country, your data is transferred to the United States. For voice data we rely on your explicit consent.
Spēk is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data. You must be 18 or older to record and clone your voice. If you believe a child has given us data, write to us and we will delete it.
Data is encrypted in transit. Access to stored data is limited to what is needed to run and support the service. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach affects your data, we will tell you as the law requires.
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we will say so in the app or by email before the change takes effect. The date at the top shows the current version.
